Kunstenaar: Munir Hanoon

Munir Hanoon woont en werkt in Madrid. Hij is een geëngageerd kunstenaar die zich afvraagt hoe het mechanisme van onderdrukking werkzaam is in de maatschappij van nu en vroeger. Deze tijdslijn wordt zichtbaar in het gebruik van portretten die bekend zijn uit de Middeleeuwen en Vroeg-Renaissance, zoals van Francesca en de Vlaamse primitieven. In deze tijd vond een omwenteling plaats van het denken. Het was de tijd waarin religieuze dominantie overging naar wereldlijke dominantie. Zijn de machtsverhoudingen veranderd of is dat een constante in de ontwikkeling van de mensheid? In een schilderij als "From Pierro della Francesca to Kiefer" zien we een symbool van macht: de hertog van Urbino symmetrisch gespiegeld in een as van het middenpaneel dat verwijst naar de aardse schilderkunst van Kiefer. Duidelijk is dat de kunstenaar een keuze maakt en een duidelijk statement schildert.

"My situation in the art world was always as a witness to all events and aspects of our age that affects our daily live: wars, famine, oppression, racism, immigratio...etc, I believe all this has reflected on my personality from an early stage of my artistic journey; humanity has always been central to my thoughts and feelings. For this , I have tended to lean towards these subjects to give my artistic work a philosophical prospect and an impression on the viewer, regardless of their level of education .

The sum of my work is to act on the cries of dissents against what goes on around us. What concerns me is the predicament and the tragedies caused by oppression, and the other way around: what makes the oppressed to become oppressor .
For me the painting never ends but represents a part of the problem to be continued in proceding work . All I can hope in my work is to echo these cries".
